Kirkwood Community College's men's basketball team is hitting its stride through the beginning of conference season.
The Eagles, 14-5 (4-1), have won five consecutive games and eight of their last nine.
On Jan. 18, Kirkwood defeated Southeastern Iowa Community College in a double-overtime thriller in Kirkwood's Johnson Hall, 83-82.
In Kirkwood's most recent contest, they defeated North Iowa Area Community College, 69-60, in Johnson Hall on Jan. 23.
The floor general for the Eagles has been Kaylon Williams. His 6.5 assists per game leads the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference by more than an assist and a half per game. His presence and passing ability open up the floor for the other four players on the court.
Williams led the Division I's Missouri Valley Conference in assists a season ago before transferring to Kirkwood.
The Eagles have dominated at home with a 7-1 record. Of their remaining 10 games in the regular season, five are in the friendly confines of Johnson Hall.
Jarvis Williams is leading the Eagles in scoring, averaging more than 14 points per game. Trevell Rivers leads the team in rebounds per game, averaging almost nine per contest, which ranks third in the ICCAC.
Kirkwood is second in the ICCAC, one game behind Ellsworth Community College, which is undefeated in the conference. Kirkwood will host Ellsworth on Feb. 6 in Johnson Hall.
As the Eagles enter the final part of the season, they look to continue their strong play and contend for a national tournament appearance again.
