As a proud Minnesota Vikings fan, I believe Brett Favre made the right choice in returning for his 19th NFL season, and I am glad he did.

Some NFL fans think the only reason Favre signed with the Vikings was to beat his former team, the Green Bay Packers, twice (which he did). That is not a valid argument. Too many other factors are involved.

Here are five reasons Favre decided to return:

1. The Vikings have a very talented roster and a legitimate chance to make a Super Bowl run. Plus, he already knows the offense.

2. They play the Packers only twice and there are 16 games in an NFL regular season. And 2-14 is not an impressive record.

3. He still loves to play the game. Favre is leading the league in tackles of teammates after touchdowns.

4. His daughter wants him to get another Super Bowl ring. At least that's what he said his ultimate reason during his official "comeback" press conference.

5. He gets to play his home games in a dome this season. A 40-year-old man needs to keep himself warm so his arthritis doesn't start acting up.

And so what if Favre signed with the rival Vikings. The Vikings are a very talented team that was just a good quarterback away from winning a Super Bowl last season.

It's not like he chose to play for the Jets last season. The Jets were the team the Packers wanted him to play for if he came out of retirement. Favre had no leeway on where he would play last season. The Packers decided to trade him to a team they wouldn't face so they could avoid the drama generated by a game that featured Favre vs. Packers.

This season Favre has the Vikings off to a 7-1 start and has Minnesota fans thinking this is the season the team will finally win a Super Bowl. Favre has already played his two games against the Packers, winning both.

So if my theory that Favre came back to win a Super Bowl is correct, Viking fans should be ready for an exciting second half of the season.

But if the theory that Favre came back only to beat the Packers is true, I guess the Vikings will flop the rest of the season.

We'll see what happens.

Sundays are supposed to be easy. It's a day to relax and enjoy simple pleasures like beer, Lay's potato chips and football.

Together, we gather around the warm glow of the TV to de-stress and celebrate mankind's tradition of group identification. This tribal bond is especially understood in Iowa where we truly do bleed black and gold. GO HAWKS!
