Williams went to Evansville after graduating from Kennedy in 2008. He was named to the Missouri Valley Conference freshman team but he said he didn't enjoy the school and wanted to be closer to home.
"Some things just weren't working out," he said.
Before Williams transferred to Kirkwood, he led the MVC in assists, averaging five per game. Williams also averaged six points and four rebounds.
Division I, he said, was amazing. "When you are playing national champion North Carolina, you are out there against basically all NBA players, so you can take that from it and it's a learning aspect," he said.
Greg Stokes, Kirkwood men's basketball assistant coach, said Williams brings toughness to the team and could be very successful at Kirkwood.
"Kaylon is an extremely talented basketball player," he said. "In our short time with Kaylon, we, the coaching staff, have noticed his desire to win and be a team leader. If he continues to work hard, the sky is the limit for him."
By leaving Division I, Williams had to give up a basketball scholarship but he has a plan. "I came here for a year and look to go back to Division I after this year," he said.
