Summer on a student's budget

The economy has been a little shaky, leaving many tight-budgeted college students wondering how they're going to dine out this summer. There are a number of options for those who want to hold on to some of their pennies while filling their stomachs.

Kirkwood sophomore Pat Lawler said, "I look for daily specials," and explained that Hawkeye Hideout on Prentiss Street has $2.50 burger baskets on Mondays and $1 tacos on Tuesdays.

Iowa City has a number of restaurants that cater to students whose bank accounts have been outgrown by their hunger. With a frugal eye and some legwork, it's not hard to spend under $10 dollars or even $5 on a meal downtown.

Under $5

Bluebird Diner- $2.50 for 3 pancakes (breakfast hours)

Bo James- $4.99 burger baskets during lunch

Bruegger's Bagels- $2.49 bagel and cream cheese

Marco's Grilled Cheese-$3 grilled cheese
