Coach Kim Muhl has been an educator and women's basketball coach for 22 years, 21 of them at Kirkwood Community College. Muhl recently achieved a milestone: his 600th win while coaching the Eagles Along the way, he led the Eagles to five national championships and has become one of the most accomplished coaches in the National Junior College Athletic Association The 600th win came Dec.

A surprise awaited Kirkwood Community College women's head basketball coach Kim Muhl when he led his team onto the Johnson Hall court against Iowa Western on Dec.  5. "I knew something was up but I did not know it would be something like this," Muhl said.

Eagles men flying high

Men's team has won five straight and eight of nine

Kirkwood Community College's men's basketball team is hitting its stride through the beginning of conference season. The Eagles, 14-5 (4-1), have won five consecutive games and eight of their last nine. On Jan. 18, Kirkwood defeated Southeastern Iowa Community College in a double-overtime thriller in Kirkwood's Johnson Hall, 83-82.

Eagle women bounce back after first loss

While many Kirkwood Community College students relaxed over the winter break, the third ranked Kirkwood women's basketball team was hard at work. The Eagles, 18-1, dropped their first game of the season Dec. 12 to second-ranked Illinois Central, 58-68. Illinois Central "played very well and we had no energy," said women's head coach Kim Muhl.

Spring intramurals are here

Though it is too late to start up a 5 on 5 basketball team, a co-ed volleyball team or register for the 8-ball pool singles tournament, it is not to late to be involved in spring intramural activities. While basketball, volleyball and pool are being played, the Texas Hold 'em league is going on until March 22.

Brus, Goedken named All-Americans

The volleyball season may be over but the awards keep piling up for the Kirkwood Community College women.  Sophomore outside hitter Heather Brus and freshman outside hitter Chanda Goedken were named to the NJCAA All-American Second Team on Dec. 4, 2009. "I appreciate being recognized and I'm very grateful for this honor," Brus said.
