POIN Adam Cole - Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday, celebrates the contributions of the most prominent leader of the civil rights movement by giving people a day off and/or extra pay. One would think that the late King's work would be honored by more than sales specials, sleeping in or lackluster television marathons.

That is the opportunity being offered at Kirkwood Community College this tax season. Kirkwood accounting students have opened their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program to aid students, staff, faculty and area taxpayers in preparing the basic levels of federal and Iowa tax returns.

'Agent Zero' not a hero

Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas, also known as "Agent Zero," recently received an indefinite suspension from the NBA for pulling an unloaded handgun on a teammate in the locker room of the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The altercation apparently was a result of an unsettled gambling debt between Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton.

Palin signs on to continue her legacy

The former governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, has signed on as a political correspondent for the Fox News Channel. Sounds like a perfect job for her. This way she can sound intellectually inept and completely natural because you'll hear it straight from Fox News.
