Folk art heralds Mexican women

A reception honoring Susan Chrysler White and her exhibit, "Milagro del Dia: The Daily Miracle," was held Nov. 5 in Iowa Hall at Kirkwood Community College. White, a University of Iowa art professor, assembled the exhibit, which contains embroidered quilts, cloth works and photos that reflect the lives of Mexican women.

'Big Whiskey' intoxicating

The Dave Matthews Band CD "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" may have been released in June. But it still is delivering the energetic, yet soothing melodies through headphones everywhere. "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" is the seventh album the Dave Matthews Band has released and the first album since its four-year hiatus after its 2005 release of "Stand Up.

New show to meld painting, music, video

Kirkwood Community College will exhibit works by Lawrence Fritts and Sue Hettmansperger in the Iowa Hall Gallery from Nov. 16 to Dec. 12. This will be a multimedia show featuring oil paintings from Hettmansperger, music composed by Fritts and video collaborations.

Vocal jazz show set for Nov. 21

Kirkwood's fall vocal jazz concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in Ballantyne Auditorium. The concert will feature Jazz Transit and RSVP, directed by Ray Salucka. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. The concert is free to Kirkwood students, faculty and staff with a `valid ID.
