Junior midfielder Alexis Dominguez put home the game-winning goal on a header in the 84th minute to lead Western Illinois to a 1-0 victory over Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in the 2010 regular-season opener on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
It was Dominguez's first goal of his career in his first ever match for the Fighting Leathernecks (1-0-0), who defeated the Cougars (0-1-0) by a 1-0 score for the second straight season.

Neither the rain or the Valparaiso defense was able to slow down Western Illinois' offensive attack.
The Western Illinois football team got its first win since winning last season's opener with a 45-0 victory over Valparaiso.
"Our players worked for a long time to ensure that we'd be 1-0 with a victory at Hanson Field," said head Mark Hendrickson.
