With the United States less than a week away from the ninth anniversary of Sept. 11, the controversy surrounding the planned construction of an Islamic community center near Ground Zero has reached an almost fever pitch. With the strong emotional symbolism connected to this project both for and against, it is not surprising that many logical arguments are not heard over the shouting.

With the release of his new book, The Grand Design, Stephen Hawking has changed his view on the existence of a god from a more agnostic atheism to a staunch atheism. In the past, while never believing in God himself, he was not able discount the possibility of it, but now he asserts that God is an impossibility because of the nature of our universe.

Everyone is talking about the mosque in New York. Everyone is talking about how President Obama wrongly made the planned building of the mosque a national issue. Everyone is getting all worked up over a community and mosque's being built on public property two blocks away from Ground Zero.
